After four days without power after Hurricane Isaias, we decided to check into a hotel in Fishkill for a hot shower and some nice A/C. Of course we found out that our power was back about 10 minutes after we checked in!
We figured we may as well make the best of it, so while we were there we stopped off at the VanWyck Homestead. This place was an armory during the Revolutionary War. At some point George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, General Israel Putnam , the Marquis deLafayette, and a whole bunch of other Founding Fathers passed through here. As a matter of fact, their unofficial motto is "George Washington DIDN'T sleep here!"
Unfortunately, we couldn't go inside, because it was closed for the day. It turns out that Sophia's Social Studies teacher, Mr. Riley, was filming a video for his students inside. He came out to say Hi in full Revolutionary War garb, complete with smallpox!!
It's a small place, the whole tour of the grounds took about 15 minutes, since the museum was closed, but it's worth a quick stop if you in the area, and have a little bit of time. You can check out their website here. We can't wait to go back.

44 Year's Before Independance!

The VanWyck House

There's a stone floor under there, that dates back to the last Ice Age!

What is now Route 9, goes South to Broadway, and North to Albany!

This marker was moved here from 1/2 a mile south. It marks the largest single Revolutionary War burial site, with 500-1000 soldiers buried there. Can still visit the site today.

This memorial is made up of stones from 50 different historical battle sites, and other significant sites.

Where would we be without them?
